GROUPE RENAULT PAYS TRIBUTE TO MR. RAYMOND LEVY, CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF RENAULT FROM 1986 TO 1992

Boulogne-Billancourt, October 11, 2018 - Groupe Renault was very saddened to learn of the death, at the age of 91, of Mr. Raymond Levy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renault from 1986 to 1992.

" On behalf of Groupe Renault, I would like to pay tribute to the memory of Raymond Levy, whose work, dedication and commitment contributed to the recovery of La Régie Renault in the late 1980s and prepared the company for its return to the private sector. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, " said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Groupe Renault.

Biography of Mr. Raymond Levy:


Raymond Haïm Levy was born on June 28, 1927 in Paris. He studied at the Lycée Jacques-Decour and entered the École Polytechnique in 1946, where he graduated as a valedictorian in 1948. He then attended the École des Mines de Paris from 1949-1952.


He began his career in 1952 in les Houillères of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais basin. He then joined the Toulouse mineralogical district from 1953 to 1957, before joining the oil industry where he became vice-president of Elf-Aquitaine in 1976. He left the group in 1980 to take over the management of Usinor two years later. In 1984, Raymond Levy moved to Belgium to work for Cockerill Sambre, where he stayed for eighteen months.


In December 1986, Raymond Levy took over the management of La Régie Renault where, during his five years in office, he implemented the remediation plan drawn up by Georges Besse, his predecessor. He launched a crusade for total quality and prepared the company for its return to the private sector. From 1998 to 2001, he was Chairman of CDR (for Consortium de réalisation des actifs du Crédit Lyonnais). Appointed General Engineer of Les Mines in 1978, he was Vice-Chairman of the General Council of Les Mines (1987-1993) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Lagardère Group.


Raymond Levy is a Commander of the Legion of Honor and Commander of the National Order of Merit.
