Industrial waste as a source of energy: Renault's Sandouville plant recycles
23 February 2012 18:00
Renault’s Sandouville plant in France has officially commissioned its unique thermal energy supply network, designed to heat the plant’s premises in a more environmentally friendly way.
Some or all of the superheated water used in the plant’s heating system will now be produced using the steam released during the incineration of the Sandouville plant’s industrial waste by its contractor Sedibex.
The use of this steam will provide the energy equivalent of around 25,000 MWh per year, and therefore also reduce the plant’s CO2 emissions by 4,500 tonnes.
This project contributes to Renault’s sustainable development goals, in particular the objective of using 20% renewable energies (direct and indirect) by 2020.
