Rémi Bastien, new chairman of EUCAR, the European Council for Automotive R&D

Rémi Bastien, 53, Director of Research, Advanced Studies and Materials (DREAM) at Renault, took over as Chairman of the European Council for Automotive R&D, EUCAR*, on January 1, 2012.

EUCAR’s remit is to make the automotive industry more competitive through strategic cooperative work on R&D. It identifies common interests in research, disseminates these topics among major stakeholders and develops collaborative research projects co-financed by Europe. EUCAR focuses on four areas: Fuels and Powertrain; Integrated Safety; Materials and Manufacturing; and Mobility and Transport. Projects are built by EUCAR members in partnership with suppliers, research labs, small- and mid-sized businesses, and universities.

*Members include BMW, DAF, Daimler, Fiat, Ford of Europe, GM/Opel, Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault, Scania, Volkswagen, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group.
