Top management appointments

Mr. Jean-Michel BILLIG, currently EVP Research & Development at Eurocopter (EADS Group), will be joining Renault Group. As of July 1st, 2012, he will be appointed EVP Engineering and Quality, in replacement of Ms. Odile DESFORGES , who has decided to retire. Mr. Jean-Michel BILLIG will report to Mr. Carlos TAVARES, Chief Operating Officer of Renault. He will be member of the Group Executive Committee.

As of April 1st, 2012, Mr. Katsumi NAKAMURA , currently Chairman of Asia-Africa Region, is appointed EVP, Head of China Business Operations. He reports to Mr. Carlos TAVARES, Chief Operating Officer of Renault. He is member of the Renault Management Committee.

As of April 1st, 2012, Mr. Gilles NORMAND , currently Corporate Vice President Africa, Middle-East and India at Nissan, is appointed SVP, Chairman of Asia-Pacific Region. He reports to Mr. Carlos TAVARES, Chief Operating Officer of Renault. He will be member of the Renault Management Committee. Africa will now be part of Euromed Region.

As of April 1st, 2012, Mr. Thomas LANE , currently Corporate Vice President, Product Planning at Nissan, is appointed SVP, Product Planning for Renault Group, succeeding to Ms. Béatrice FOUCHER , who will be assigned to other functions within the company. Mr. Thomas LANE will also steer the coordination and the animation of the Daimler partnership within Renault. Mr. Thomas LANE reports to Mr. Philippe KLEIN, EVP Corporate Planning, Product Planning and Programs. He will be member of the Renault Management Committee.

Born in 1963, Jean-Michel Billig is graduated from Ecole Centrale (France). He has both French and German nationalities. He started his career in 1988 as System Engineer for the Tiger Program, at Helicopter Division of Aérospatiale, in Munich (Germany). In 1992, he joined Schlumberger as Sales Director for Europe. In 1995, he went back to Aérospatiale to become Technical Offer Director for Communications Satellites. In 1998, he was appointed Purchasing Director for Avionics Systems Equipment at Airbus. In 2003, he became Director of A400M Program for France and Vice President of A400M Systems Development. In 2007, he took the head of the Systems Design Office of Airbus before joining Eurocopter Group in 2009 as EVP Research & Development. He is member of the Executive Committee of Eurocopter.


Born in 1950, Odile Desforges is graduated from Ecole Centrale (France).  She began her career at the Transport Research Institute, then joined Renault in 1981 as planning officer prior to becoming product engineer (1983-1985). She moved to Purchasing in 1986 and was appointed Director, Body Interior Purchasing, in 1993, then Director, Body Hardware Purchasing in 1994. She became Executive Vice President of the Renault VI group in 1999. In January 2001, she was appointed President of the 3P Business Unit (Product Planning, Product Development, Purchasing, Project) at Volvo Trucks. She moved back to Renault in March 2003 as Senior Vice President, Purchasing, and Chairman and C.E.O. of the Renault Nissan Purchasing Organization. From March 1, 2009, Odile Desforges is appointed Executive Vice President, Engineering and Quality.


Born in 1953, Katsumi Nakamura is graduated from Tokyo University and has a Master in Aeronautic. He has Japanese nationality. He joined Nissan in April 1978. He started his career as engineer in Body Design and then moved to Corporate Planning and Product Planning. In January 2000, he joined the Program Director department as Program Director for SUV line up and become a member of Nissan’s North America Management Committee. In April 2002, he was in charge of establishing Nissan operations in China and in July 2003 he was appointed President, Dongfeng Motor Company Co, Ltd., Nissan's joint venture partnership in China. Since May 5, 2008, Katsumi Nakamura is appointed Executive Vice President, Chairman of Asia-Africa Region.


Born in 1962, Gilles Normand is graduated from EDHEC (France). He started his career at Renault, in 1988, at Product Planning department before moving to Sales & Marketing Division. In 1998, he was appointed Vice President, Commercial Coordination, for Renault Mercosur. In 1999, he joined Nissan in Japan to take in charge the Sales & Marketing for Latin America and Caribbean. In 2003, he was appointed President of Nissan Motor Espana prior to becoming Corporate Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Middle East, Africa & Latin America in 2006. In 2009, he was appointed Corporate Vice President, in charge of Africa, Middle East and India for Nissan, Infiniti and LCV Business Units and in charge of Europe for Infiniti and LCV Business Units.


Born in 1958, Thomas Lane is a graduate of the University of Southern California (MBA). He has American nationality. He started his career at Nissan Motor Company in the US in 1981 as a Product Specialist, Product Planning. In 1984, he joined J.D. Power & Associates as Project Director before moving to Hyundai Motor America in 1986 as National Manager, Product Planning. In 1991, he returned to Nissan North America to become Corporate Manager in the Product and Market Strategy department. In 2000, he was appointed Program Director for D-platform (Altima, Teana, Maxima, Murano), before heading the Product Planning of Nissan as General Manager in 2005 and then Corporate Vice President in 2006.
