Excellence Mécanique Alpine, a unique competition to bring the younger generation into the heart of Formula 1

  • Supported by Esteban Ocon, Alpine F1 Team driver, the Excellence Mécanique Alpine competition will give students from all over France working in the automotive mechanical sector the opportunity to showcase their skills and expertise.
  • The winner will complete an internship in the engine assembly workshop of Alpine F1 Team at Viry-Châtillon, with a possibility to convert to an apprenticeship contract.
  • Designed and developed in partnership with the French Ministry of Labour, Employment and Integration, the competition will be an opportunity towards excellence that is open to everyone. It will also promote the integration and training of young people within the professional sector.

13 December 2021  09:00

The Excellence Mécanique Alpine competition is a national initiative aimed at students registered in the Automotive Maintenance and Automotive After-Sales sectors, at BAC and BAC+11 level. Registrations will begin on January 11, 2022 via www.concours-excellence-mecanique-alpine.fr

The competition will have three main stages:

  • A theoretical test of general knowledge
  • A regional practical test
  • The final at Alpine F1 Team HQ in Viry-Châtillon

The winner will be offered a three-month internship at Alpine F1 Team’s engine assembly workshop at Viry-Châtillon, working on the engine for the 2022 Formula 1 season. This internship could be subsequently converted into an apprenticeship contract.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO WIN

Equal opportunity and meritocracy are the DNA of the Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine. To ensure the same chance of success, the financial situation, lifestyle and education of each candidate should not be a barrier to participation in the competition. As such, costs incurred by candidates during the internship, including transport and accommodation, will be covered.

WORKING TOGETHER

The candidates selected for the final will be immersed in the engine division of Alpine F1 Team with its huge expertise and experience. The candidates will take the tests in pairs, with the evaluation relating as much to the excellence of their know-how as to their interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

The immersion will be intense for the winner as they will experience full integration into a collective of knowledge, skill and human excellence.

ESTEBAN OCON, AN EXCEPTIONAL CHAMPION

Esteban Ocon, Alpine F1 Team driver since 2020, is backing the project. His background, experience and great maturity make him the ideal champion of the Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine.

"The Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine will encourage young people to always aim higher and to demonstrate the importance of their studies and their value. I would like to encourage everyone to always exceed their expectations. I am delighted that this competition has been created and that it allows young people to understand the Alpine values."

A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT, AN EVOLVING COMPETITION

The project, born of a collaboration between Alpine and the French Ministry of Labour, has included many stakeholders from creation until deployment: the Ministry of Labour via the Délégation Interministérielle au Développement de l’Apprentissage dans les Quartiers Prioritaires de la Politique de la Ville (Interministerial Delegation for the Development of Apprenticeships in Priority Districts of the City Policy), l’Association Nationale pour la Formation Automobile (National Association for Automotive Training, ANFA), l’Opérateur de Compétences des Métiers de la Mobilité (Skills Operator of Mobility Trades, OPCO Mobilités), les Chambres des Métiers et de l’Artisanat (Trade and Craft Chambers, CMA France) and Renault Group. Alpine wants to extend the competition and to create new collaboration opportunities to enrich the opportunities for young people.

"We created this competition together with Alpine as a great opportunity for apprentices or high school students in the mechanical sector to discover the world of Formula 1 thanks to an internship with this prestigious team. Girls, boys, young people from priority districts, rural areas or students from overseas territories; everyone has their chance in this challenge. It was important for us to remove all barriers that could prevent a young person from entering the excellence of the motorsport industry and living their dream."

Patrick TOULMET, Interministerial Delegate for the Development of Apprenticeship in Priority Districts of the City Policy

"Our objective is to enhance and promote the French automotive mechanical industry through the Excellence Mécanique Alpine competition. We are delighted to put young people back at the heart of the system! This competition is an opportunity to highlight the technical expertise necessary to reach the highest level and, above all, to create vocations in mechanical engineering, one the most dynamic sectors. Young people following training in CFA and vocational schools are rich with talent for the Renault and Alpine distribution network."

Arnaud SAUTIER, Director of network training France, Renault Group

"Designing and developing high performance engines is the mission objective for our team based in Viry-Châtillon. At the forefront of innovation and technology, Alpine is proud to be involved in a project carrying both strong messages in terms of inclusion, integration, self-confidence and good conduct among young people within the automotive industry. We are delighted to be able to introduce future generations to the values inherent in Formula 1, as well as those of the women and men who work within the sport."

Laurent ROSSI, CEO, Alpine

"The Concours Excellence Mécanique Alpine is a way to initiate young people into the world of work by bringing together inclusion and excellence, interpersonal skills and individual and collective expertise, dream and reality, as well as the passing on of knowledge. This initiative also illustrates the implementation of our sustainable development strategy for inclusion. It contributes to the We Race As One program, developed by Formula 1, which aims to make the sport more diverse and inclusive."
